Completing Your First Assessment

This tutorial covers the steps you need to follow to sign up for the Metrici Advisor service and to complete your first assessment.
Before you start this tutorial.
Make sure you have completed the Introduction to Metrici Advisor tutorial, to understand the information held in Metrici Advisor, how to navigate around the system, and how to run and interpret the reports.It is recommended that you complete the Two-Minute Overview and the Principles of Metrici ESQM tutorials, to understand the background to Metrici Advisor.Access the Metrici Advisor service at http://advisor.metrici.com/app/index.jsp.
Before you use Metrici Advisor, you must have a user id and password.
If you do not have a user id and password, use the link to create a free account. The free account will give you 90 days access to Metrici Advisor, and allow you to assess 10 IT systems.

If you do not already have a user id, sign up for free using the sign up page.
Fill in the fields and click on .
Read the Terms and conditions, and check the box to indicate that you accept them.
Use the Marketing preferences check boxes to indicate whether you want to receive marketing information from Metrici, and from Metrici's partners.
When you have signed up, you will be shown a Congratulations page. Select the link to return to the home page.

The home page has three sections, each of which can be opened or closed by clicking on its title.
Assets. The assets that you have set up.Reports. The reports that you have run.Tasks. The main activities that you can perform.The page has a menu bar across the top, which guides you to the main sections of Metrici Advisor.
If you are not sure of anything, click on the Help link on the top right.
Use the link in the Task list to create a new asset.

Enter a name for the system and a brief description.
Leave the Asset type as Asset.
Select the Metrici Starter template, to review an IT system.
Do not select anything in the Group list.
Leave the License drop-down list as Any available.
Click on to create the asset.

When you have created the asset, you will be taken back to the home page, where your new asset will be shown in the Assets section.
Click on the to start the assessment.

The assessment page contains a number of tabs. Each tab reveals a set of related questions.
Use the and buttons to navigate around the assessment, or click on the tabs themselves.
Use the report drop-down box and the button to run a report.
Use the button to close the assessment and return to the home page.
Use the button to save your changes and stay on the asssessment page.
Your changes are also saved if you move to another tab, run a report or close the assessment page.
To discard your changes that you have not saved, navigate away from the page using the menu bar or the explorer links.

Each tab contains a list of questions.
Answer each question fully and concisely in the text box.

Immediately below each question is a list of grades.
Select the grade that most closely matches your answer.
Use the button to save your work and move the page down to the next question.

Assessment is the core of the ESQM method.
To gain value from the method, take your time on the assessment. Read the questions carefully. Give full, concise answers. Make sure that what you write fully justifies the grading that you select.
The assessment asks searching and challenging questions. As a rough estimate, it takes about two hours to consider fully all the questions on the system review.
As soon as you have finished the assessment, the automated analysis gives full reports with actionable recommendations. Overall, the assessment process is a very efficient and effective way of gaining insight into an IT system.
You can answer the questions in any sequence, and return to the assessment as many times as you need using the link from the Assets section on the home page.
You can run reports before the assessment is complete, to measure progress on the assessment and to understand issues detected so far.

As well as navigating to the assessment from the home page, you can use the explorer to navigate around the asset and run reports, as described in the Introduction to Metrici Advisor tutorial.
The explorer can be more efficient than the assessment page when you need to view or update answers singly.
Use the link from the response details to edit a response.

The response edit page allows you to answer questions one-at-a-time.
The response edit page also provides a section for further comments. These comments are not show on the reports, but provide a place for additional notes to help the assessment process.
Use the , or buttons to save your changes.
To discard changes that have not yet been saved, navigate away from the page using the menu bar or the explorer links, or use the button.
