About the Quick Start programme
The Quick Start programme demonstrates the benefits of system quality management in your organisation, quickly and at very low risk.
The programme has three stages: free initial workshop, proof of concept, and planning.
Initial workshop
The initial workshop introduces system quality management and explores how it can deliver benefits to your organisation.
The workshop is delivered free, without obligation, at your premises (see below for conditions).
The half-day workshop includes:
- An in-depth discussion of the concepts of system quality management, and their application to your IT management challenges.
- An exploration of your objectives for cost reduction, risk reduction, improved control and improved responsiveness, and how these could be addressed by system quality management.
- A discussion of how system quality management could work alongside your current processes, organisation, resourcing and architecture.
- An honest appraisal of whether system quality management is right for you.
After the workshop, we will deliver a report which summarises the findings from the workshop. We will also provide a fixed-price proposal for a proof of concept.
Proof of concept
The proof of concept demonstrates system quality management working in your organisation.
The proof of concept comes with our no risk, no quibble guarantee. If you are not firmly convinced of the benefits from system quality management, you do not pay for the work (see below for conditions).
The proof of concept includes:
- A rigorous assessment of a number of your IT systems (typically ten) using a questionnaire tailored to reflect your priorities for cost reduction, risk reduction, improved control and improved responsiveness.
- Analysis of the assessments to drive out prioritised, justified, fact-based recommendations for improving your systems.
- A workshop to review the analysis. As well as letting you fully explore the recommendations, the review considers how system quality management can be further tailored to meet your needs more closely.
At the end of the proof of concept, we will deliver a report which documents the recommendations. We will also provide a fixed-price proposal for the planning stage.
Planning
The planning stage delivers a costed implementation plan for system quality management.
The planning stage includes:
- A terms of reference which explains how to maximise the benefits from system quality management in your organisation. This documents your objectives for system quality management including estimates of the potential cost savings from the method. It also includes the roles and responsibilities required to support system quality management, and how system quality management can work with your other IT management processes.
- An initial inventory of your systems, to understand the scope of system quality management.
- A high level roll-out plan for system quality management, including customisation of assessment criteria, training, and a baseline assessment of all your IT, aligned to the specific needs of your organisation.
- Resourcing and cost estimates, both for roll-out and for ongoing system quality management.
Prices and conditions
Initial workshop
The initial workshop is delivered for free.
Outside the UK mainland, we request that you contribute to our expenses. We will agree a fixed cost for expenses when booking the workshop.
Proof of concept
We will agree a fixed price for the proof of concept after the initial workshop. The price will depend on the scope that we jointly agree, but we would not expect this to exceed £15,000 + VAT.
If at the end of the proof of concept you do not want to pay (for any reason), simply let us know in writing within 28 days of our invoice and return to us all materials that we have delivered to you.
If we are likely to incur significant expenses while carrying out the proof of concept (outside the UK mainland, work across multiple sites, or a large number of site visits) we request that you contribute to our expenses even if you do not want to pay for the proof of concept. We will agree this, and agree a fixed cost for expenses, as part of the proof of concept agreement.
Planning
We will agree a fixed price for the planning stage after the proof of concept. We would not expect this to exceed £10,000 + VAT. Payment for the proof of concept does not oblige you to proceed with the planning stage.
We may vary these conditions to best meet your circumstances. In all cases, we will define and agree cost and conditions before work starts.

Tailored Quick Start
The Quick Start programme is not the only way to evaluate and implement system quality management. If you want to use your own staff, the System Governance Handbook contains processes to guide you through the evaluation, initiation and roll out of system quality management. We are of course happy to provide whatever assistance you need during this process, or to quote for a more tailored engagement to meet any specific requirements you have.
